Questions Anyone?
1. Do you have a music list?
In the age of digital music, I have complete access to any song imaginable. Considering how much time it would take to compile a list like this, I have decided to offer a music recommendation page on my website. Take a look at that and that should get ideas going for you.
2. We were at a wedding recently and some of the music the DJ played was horrible and some of it was down-right offensive. What do you do to make sure that this doesn’t happen at our event?
Great question! I believe I have a very good taste in music, that is widely appreciated and accepted by most people I know or have played for. So trusting me is key. However, I do offer a unique “DO-NOT-PLAY” list for my customers. I ask that they provide me songs that they absolutely do not want to hear at their event. This list can even include types of music (eg. rap, house music, hip-hop, blue grass etc..)
3. Do you play requests?
Absolutely! Your guests will like working with me, because I am very easy to work with. When they have a song, that “just has to be played”, I totally understand, because I have been there before. I think, there is nothing more annoying than a DJ who ignores the needs of the guests. Be assured, that I will play these requests at an appropriate time as to not kill the momentum of the party. If a guest wants to hear Yanni, while the crowd is jamming to Elvis he will have to wait and he may have to wait a really long time. There are times when I will tell the person making the request that, I just don’t have it or I will try to get to it.
4. What do you wear while you DJ?
My attire is rather low key, which fits with my approach to DJing. I never put on costumes or breakout “clever” props for entertainment. Remember, the music I play is the entertainment. If the party is during Halloween I may dig out a fitting costume that could win the prize. For weddings, I typically wear a suite and tie, on the other hand if it is a backyard party with a pool I will be sure to bring along some trunks and my floaters.
5. How do handle announcements throughout the evening?
If my customer prefers a friend or relative to play the role of MC, I will gladly step back and let that person take the mic. I am not a big fan of providing endless DJ chatter on my microphone, so I am short and to the point on any type of announcements that are needed (group pictures, introducing the wedding party, reminding the owner of the red BMW that his lights are still on).
6. Tell me a bit about your equipment and set-up/take-down time.
I have state-of-the-art equipment that is very new and reliable. It usually takes me about 20 – 30 minutes to set up and take down. I arrive at all of my events with plenty of time to spare. The last thing anyone wants to see at a wedding reception is a sweatie DJ running around with speakers and chords etc. Timing and preparedness is everything!
7. How much do you charge?
My pricing is competitive and I will be glad to go over your plans with you as to establish a budgeted amount that will work great for you!
8. How far would you travel for a DJ gig?
Have a budget to cover the travel expenses and I am there! Most events I play for are in the Chicagoland area, however I have traveled to Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan in the past. I have even played for a corporate “Mardis Gras” party in Moorestown, NJ. This DJ is not afraid of any sort of road trip.
